Welcome to the Manchester Enterprise Group newsletter, brought to you by our copywriting agency, Making You Content.
We’re experimenting with a few new ideas at MEG this month – rotating the chair of the meetings and mixing up the format to keep things fresh.
There’ve also been some great guests turning up at Cloud 23 in recent weeks, including the likes of networking host Scott Hadden. The Food & Film founder also into the travel industry, offering bespoke holiday experiences on behalf of Mark Bratt Travel. MEG’s own Jacob O’Brien has already taken advantage – booking himself a South African safari!
Here are all the rest of the highlights from late October, as well as what we can look forward to in November.
The Theme: The Flow State
As hardworking business owners, we’ve all experienced that sensation where time completely vanishes – a point when we’re so deeply immersed in the task at hand that hours flash by in what feels like a matter of minutes.
Our performance psychologist Stuart Holliday picked apart this phenomenon in our last MEG meeting, labelling it: ‘The Flow State’.
Research has shown that many athletes and professional sportspeople have enjoyed their best performances and greatest successes when immersed in the Flow State – where the inner critic is deactivated and their focus is sharpened.
But entering a state of mind that empowers ultimate human performance isn’t something we can switch on and off. It must be an activity that is suitably challenging yet familiar – a testing activity within a craft you know inside-out.
Finding the Flow State means committing to mastering a trade and being willing to tackle the tougher tests. Once you’re in this frame of mind, you can achieve something rather special. Stu signed off by encouraging the group to find their Flow State – wishing us the best for the rest of the week.
